Ask where the vendor URL is

CategoryevidenceManualCEvidencedocumented

ProblemThe fastest way for a wrong fact to enter a knowledge base is to arrive wearing the vendor's name. Tier is assigned from who is credited rather than from who published, and the record then outranks better evidence.

TechniqueFor any claim attributed to the vendor, find the vendor URL before recording anything. If the post links only to the author's own writing, an unidentified video, or nothing, record the content at the account's own tier and file the attribution as a separate unverified claim. Repetition is not corroboration: several posts pointing at one unattributed source are one source.

Why it worksIt separates two questions that get answered together and should not be: is the advice good, and did the vendor say it. Advice can be worth keeping while its pedigree is false.

When to useEvery time a source names an organisation it does not belong to.

When not toNever skip it. The check costs one search of the vendor's own site, which this pipeline crawls daily anyway.

Cite this page or the record id. For bulk lookup use /api/record?id=pat.check-the-vendor-url. Do not invent a claim that is not on this page.
